Digest emails¶
Loveshack sends each subscriber a digest of new stream items on the schedule they chose, rendered through the theme's own HTML email layout.
Notification intervals¶
Subscribers pick one of four intervals on their settings screen:
| Interval | Sends |
|---|---|
| Instant | As soon as the next processing run finds new content |
| Daily | Once per day |
| Weekly | Once per week |
| Monthly | Once per month |
How processing works¶
A WP-Cron event, lss_process_subscriber_digests, runs every ten minutes. On each
run, for every confirmed subscriber, Loveshack:
- Checks whether their chosen interval is due.
- Queries stream items published since their last successful send, by
post_date_gmt. - Filters those posts through the same gated-content access checks used by the private feed, so a subscriber only ever sees what their tier allows.
- Renders the accessible posts newest first and sends the email.
- Stores the send time in the user meta key
lss_digest_last_sent_gmt.
No content means no email
If a subscriber's interval is due but there are no accessible new posts, no email is sent and their last-sent timestamp is left unchanged. The next run reconsiders the same window, so nothing is skipped — subscribers simply never receive an empty digest.
The timestamp is only advanced after a successful send. A delivery failure does not consume the window.
Branding¶
The digest header is configured in the Customizer's E-Mails → Header section — avatar, site title, tagline, social links, and title/tagline overrides specific to email. See Header and social links. The subject, preview text, an optional intro, and the button label are edited under E-Mails → Post digest. See Email templates.
Both HTML and plain-text variants are rendered, so clients that reject HTML still get readable mail.
Delivery¶
Sending goes through wp_mail(). That means the transport is whatever the site
configures — Loveshack does not talk to an email API directly. FluentSMTP is
recommended and detected in the Subscribers settings. See
Email delivery.
Test emails¶
Loveshack includes a test-email path so you can verify rendering and delivery without waiting for a scheduled run or publishing a post.
The Send test email button in the Customizer's E-Mails → Post digest section sends the digest with your three latest stream posts and your unpublished changes. See Email templates.
Requirements checklist¶
For digests to arrive at all:
- A working mail transport is configured
- The sender address is on the site's domain
- Server cron is triggering due WP-Cron events — see Cron
- Subscribers are confirmed, not merely registered
- There is accessible new content in their window

Post cards follow the stream¶
Each post card in a digest is built the way its stream card is. The teaser is rendered by the same helper, so Markdown comes through as formatted text and the cut-off follows the post type's free teaser length from the Customizer. The post type pill, and any pill a plugin adds such as the Update API's Latest badge, sits under the date when Display post type pill is on for that post type. The plain-text alternative keeps a short text-only excerpt.
