Private feeds¶
Every subscriber gets a personalized RSS feed containing exactly the posts their current tier can access.
The URL is shown to the subscriber under Feeds on their settings screen.
Why this exists¶
Gated content and RSS are normally incompatible: a feed reader cannot log in. The token in the URL is the authentication, which lets a paying subscriber read gated posts in their normal reader instead of being forced onto the website.
What the feed contains¶
The feed is built from the same access check as the single post view and the digest email. A subscriber on a lower tier gets a feed without the higher-tier posts — not a feed with locked placeholders.
If the subscriber's tier changes, the feed's contents change with it on the next fetch. No new URL is issued.
Per-type feeds¶
The combined feed mixes every stream post type. Appending a post type name to the same URL limits the feed to that type:
https://example.com/subscriber-feed/{token}/post/
https://example.com/subscriber-feed/{token}/cp_status/
https://example.com/subscriber-feed/{token}/cp_image/
https://example.com/subscriber-feed/{token}/cp_video/
The Feeds panel lists one URL per enabled post type next to the combined one. All of them share the subscriber's single token, so nothing extra is stored per feed and regenerating the link invalidates every variant at once. An unknown or disabled post type returns a 404.
The lss_personal_feed_post_types filter adjusts which post types are offered.
Security¶
The feed URL is a credential
Anyone who has the URL can read everything that subscriber can read, with no further authentication. It should be treated exactly like a password:
- Do not post it publicly or paste it into shared documents
- Do not add it to a public feed aggregator or directory
- Regenerate it if it may have been exposed
The token is per-subscriber, so exposure affects one account rather than the whole site.
Public feeds¶
The site's public RSS feeds exclude every post with a required subscription tier. This is unconditional — there is no configuration that puts gated posts into a public feed.
Feed media¶
Loveshack carries media into feed output, so image and video posts arrive in readers as media items rather than as bare text.
